Rules
Phase 1 values. The numbers below are read live from
rules.json so this page can't drift from what actually scores a
track.
The fourteen rules
- Anyone with an account can upload. Sign in by email, Google or Apple.
Chosen display name is all others see.
- A track = one GPX with timestamps (+ optional photos) + a declared
mode.
- Your tracks are private to you, and you can always see them (track
page: scored ways, short-of-threshold ways, unmatched stretches).
- At upload you agree the data may improve OpenStreetMap under its
licence.
- Points come from OSM trail/RECPATH ways your track covered (mode
table above).
- A way is worth its length: 1 point per 0.1 mile.
- Claim a way by covering ≥ 80% of its length in one track →
full worth. Below → nothing on that way.
- First five claimants in a season get 100 / 80 / 60 / 40 / 20%.
After five the way is done for the season.
- Order by track date (GPX), upload time breaks ties.
- One claim per person per way per season.
- All modes equal.
- An off-network track earns nothing at first. When the trail appears
on OpenStreetMap, the scorer notices on its nightly check and pays
the claim retroactively at 200 %. No approval step. Closed/private
never pays.
- Season = calendar year; reset Jan 1; past seasons stay visible.
- Rejected: no timestamps, or impossible speed for the mode.
Trail miles are a separate count: every mile of every track on a
trail-class way, repeats included, ranked per mode. Roads and dirt roads
(highway=track) don't count.
